Washington Butler, a native Puyallup Washington was always interested in art. She was a performer in high school theatre and in the community theatre. She attended in the University of Southern California and moved to Los Angeles where she played Belle the beautiful and beast princess in Disneyland for a period of about a year and half. Her decision to leave college was to locate an agent for talent to audition for film and TV. Butler was a guest on the TV series CSI: Miami and CSI: NY. The year before, she was an actor in the Don Stark web-series Luke 11-17. Butler was also a frequent appearance in the show I Love Vampires. Butler was chosen as the principal character on I Spit on Your Grave (a remake) a 2010 revenge and rape thriller. Although initially she was not a fan of the film's violence and nudity she eventually came to be convinced of the film's feminist tone as well as its strong characters. Butler played Jennifer Hills who, having been brutally attacked by a forest cabin, and gang raped seeks vengeance on the perpetrators. The film was directed by Steven R. Monroe the film was released on October 8th of 2010. Butler started filming The Stranger Within (a psychological thriller) in Mallorca, Spain, along with Estella Ward as well as William Baldwin back in November 2011. It was planned to film at Copenhagen Denmark, New York City as well. Butler made an appearance on screen in The Demented, a 2013 horror film with Michael Welch, Kayla Ewell and Michael Welch.

Alongside the Emmy nomination, Ferland is nominated for more than a dozen awards throughout her career winning an Emmy Award, a Young Artist Award for Mermaid and the CAMIE Award for Lead Performance in an TV Movie Series or Special for her part in the role of the lead character on Pictures of Hollis Woods
